MASTERCARE Hardscape & Paver Services:

Hardscaping refers to anything in a landscape that isnít a plant. These can be walls, ponds, low voltage lighting, stairs, fire pits, arbors, edging, drainage, and of course, pavers. Our wall work is in different sections of this site, so here we will concentrate on pavers.

Pavers have been around since the Romans. Then they were made from stone, granite or clay, which still exist, but now concrete pavers are the norm. Bricks are still made from clay but arenít as suitable as pavers for pavements. Pavers are manufactured from concrete with much higher PSI density than standard poured concrete, making them so durable that most manufactures offer lifetime warranties on their pavers. They are smaller individual units that interlock together, as opposed to a concrete slab that needs to crack. When pavers are installed correctly, by Interlocking Concrete Paving Institute standards & practices, they will not move, shift or crack. The use of polymeric sand in the joints aides in interlocking & ant intrusion. Edge restraints are a must for any install as these keep the pavers in place for their lifetime. Pavers are available in many shapes, sizes & colors to fit any situation.

Permeable pavers are another option where water runoff is an issue. Permeable pavements let water pass through them into a crushed stone base where it is then channeled to the outlaying soil or drainage system. Snow melting radiant heating systems under pavers are also becoming a popular choice. Electric coils are installed in the paver bedding layer & turn on/off automatically via weather sensors.
