MASTERCARE Retaining Wall services:Manufactured block systems, (also known as Segmental Retaining Walls) in many cases, are the best choice for retaining soil to gain more level space. Segmental retaining walls require less time time & labor than stone walls, thus, are more economical than stone wall systems, without height restrictions.
Segmental retaining walls come in many shapes, sizes, & colors, but the construction technique for each system is basically the same. Excavate the area where the wall is to be built, leaving plenty of space for your crushed stone leveling/base block pad, drain pipe, & backfill material. If the wall is going to be more than 3' in height, you need to excavate further for the installation of geo-grid, a synthetic woven square grid material which is layed out behind the wall with soil compacted around it,(Geo-grid reinforcement is the essential element to the strength of Segmental Retaining Walls).
Next, set the first course of base blocks perfectly level from side to side & slightly pitched backward toward the banking. (When using a smaller block system, I will use a big base block from a different system & adhere the second course to it). Set in the drain pipe. From there, stacking additional courses, backfilling & laying down geo-grid takes place until the desired height is reached.
Segmented retaining wall systems are amazingly strong & can be built to any height with proper engineering & installation technique. We at Mastercare have installed thousands of square feet of segmental retaining walls & our experience has been time tested over 20 years.
